Eric needed to renew his German passport, so we decided to make a weekend out of it! We drove down on Sunday and grabbed lunch at Versailles as soon as we got into town. I got a plantain/meat pie with a cafe con leche and a mojito, and Eric got a cafe cubano with a giant hunk of pork leg. It was awesome. We checked into our hotel and took the Metromover, which was right next to our hotel. We stayed at the Hampton Inn at Brickell, which was centrally located to everything! We mostly just cared about being close to the Consulate.
We ventured through Bayfront Park, where everyone was watching the World Cup! There was music, dancing, and lots of cheering. It was getting later in the afternoon, so we returned to our hotel to freshen up (Miami is HOT and HUMID, but that's nothing new to a Floridian like me). We enjoyed complimentary drinks on the hotel's patio and watched the sun set--way more relaxed and cheaper than going to the Sunset Lounge or any other place!
We drove to my dad's favorite restaurant of all time: Prima Pasta on Miami Beach. My dad has been going here for years and has a soft spot for their veal piccata. We were told the wait would be 40 minutes (not bad for a Sunday night at 8:30) and enjoyed some cocktails in some lounge chairs. Once we got our table, I ordered zucchini fritti and the veal piccata with a glass of Chianti. Eric ordered gnocchi. Everything was lovely as usual :)
I wanted to show Eric around the Eden Roc because my dad used to work there, but there's no free parking on the weekends :( We did ride with the top down though! We went to bed early because we had to wake up with enough time to make Eric's passport appointment.
The next morning, we woke up, ate a wonderful continental breakfast at the hotel, got Eric's passport photos, and made our way to the German Consulate. We were really early and they decided to take him early to his appointment, so we ended up finishing his appointment by the time it was supposed to start! That gave us more time to enjoy the outlets :D
We drove to Dolphin Mall, ate a quick lunch, and shopped our brains out. Eric got at least 10 new shirts, and they were great deals. The mall was really crowded, but at least it's inside!
Overall, great trip to Miami! I wish I had photos to share.

Bayfront Park
Lots of activity here on a Sunday! There was live music and lots of dancing. The World Cup was also on, so the bars were full of cheering fans. Watch out for the homeless people though. They might eat your face.

Points of interest

Brickell Metromover Station
We rode this thing all over the place. Trains come often and it's totally free! Interesting "wildlife" of Miami, but it takes you where you need to go.

Can't go wrong here. Everything on the menu is great. Very fast service--so fast, it seems like sometimes they're trying to push you out the door! Delicious and good value.
Cafe Prima Pasta
The best Italian food in Miami!!! Good wine selection (I love my Chianti) and you can't go wrong with the veal piccata.

Dolphin Mall
A large variety of stores and great deals! It's indoor and there are good restaurants there as well.
