parterre du Midi

Versailles, Île-de-France, France
6 Kudos
The parterre du Midi, or Garden of Flowers, leads the view to the south, to a balustrade that reveals, once we reach it, the parterre of the Orangery below. The central access of the parterre, which is descended by a few steps, is framed by two statues of sphinxes ridden by Bronze Loves (transported here in 1685, after having flanked the top of the great stage of the parterre of Latona since 1670). The parterre du Midi, boxwood embroidery embellished with flowers; in the center, the two mirrors of the Waterbed lined with statues representing the rivers and rivers of France
