Xunantunich is a Maya archaeological site in Belize. We learned on our tour here that they prefer to not call them "ruins." I enjoyed my time here because you get to actually walk up some of these structures and also because it was not crowded at all unlike other more popular sites. What was also very unique was how to get here. You actually have to get on a hand-crank ferry to cross the Mopan River to the site. You get out of your car, get on the ferry, and the car also goes on the ferry with you! The ferry ride was pretty short, but a very interesting experience.
You drive there, but then you take your car on this hand cranked ferry to cross the river!
