Xintiandi is located near the SE corner of the main freeway junction in Shanghai (Yan'an Road and the North-South Viaduct). To build this area, they've had to remove hundreds of pre-existing dwelling units.
The current stone architecture looks decent, and is reminiscent of the 1800s. But the shops and eateries here definitely cater to the Western. There's a lot of cafes, such as Starbucks. And as with other expat-popular areas, the prices are a bit high.
