In many of the touristic cities in Europe, one of the things that make the town more charming is its classic wrought iron signs for businesses. Historically, as commerce and trade ere exponentially increased about the time of European Renaissance and development of large scale cities and people travel, signage had been essential part of business. Soon, business signs include logos and graphics to attract more customers. Such tradition resonates until today. In Colmar, one of the biggest cities in Alsace region of France, I have seen most of stores ornately decorated their businesses with all kinds of signage. Among those, wrought iron signs sticking out of the walls from the medieval looking Alsatian buildings are surely looking beautiful.
