One of our favorite things to do when the weather starts getting warmer (like now), is go out to rural Virginia or into West Virginia and go on a hike. An added bonus is if the hike includes a fire tower that allows for amazing views of the surrounding countryside. Woodstock, Virginia is only about 2 hours outside of Washington, DC in the Shenandoah Mountains. The hike to the fire tower itself is fairly easy, but the fire tower is quite old and rickety. I was slightly nervous climbing up it, but the views from the top were incredible. You could see the winding Shenandoah River way down below, and we had packed a lunch and ate the top since it wasn't busy that day.
