Winter in Bozeman

Bozeman, MT, United States
7 Kudos
Living in Arizona, winter is the one time that everyone is happy and frolicking outside. So when I informed my friends that I would be traveling to Montana, New York and D.C. for the month of January the response, "Why in January?" was most common. Mostly because the flights were much cheaper during these times, but also because I had good friends living in each of these areas and snow still brings me thrills and excitement as a desert dweller. With my first leg of the trip booked to Bozeman, Montana, I began to get excited about what this cute college town had to offer. Snowboarding, lots of beer, libraries, coffee shops, jacuzzis, and fireplaces all made my time here cozy!
Story Details

All the public transportation is free in Bozeman!!! Incredible! So you don't have to worry about driving in the snow. You can even pay a small fee for a shuttle to Big Sky about an hour away. This is the way most of the ski resort staff get to and from work.

Bars and nightlife

Bozeman Brewing Company
A snowy college town is definitely not in shortage of local watering holes

International Coffee Traders
A cute coffee shop by the university, great way to relax and surround yourself with the young energy of university students
Open Range
You need to try a buffalo steak while you're in Montana. Sorry vegetarians, this place is not catered to you.
Montana Ale Works
Another brewery with really really good burgers. Great way to warm up.

Special activities

Bozeman Public Library
Free books and free heat. I love libraries, especially in the winter. They have a cute little coffee shop at the entrance too so you can pass a good amount of time here.

Big Sky
Big Sky
The largest ski resort in the country, this place is like Disneyland of ski resorts. You need at least two days here.
Bridger Bowl Ski Area
The smaller and more affordable ski area, this resort is a good option for a day of skiing or boarding
