After renting a nice villa in Cisternino, Italy last fall, we needed to stock up on some basic supplies for our small kitchen, so we took off in our rental car. Driving in a foreign country is somewhat intimidating, especially along narrow, cobble stoned streets. We could neither find a small grocery or a place to park in Cisternino, and wound up driving to Alberabello, the next town over. Finally finding a parking lot, we walked two blocks to a nicely stocked store. The staff was friendly, but non-English speaking. We struggled to find garlic, of all things! We were pleased with our purchases though and enjoyed them alfresco at our villa. Just remember while traveling, things are supposed to be different. Even the simple things can be an adventure, and can produce some of the greatest rewards.
