I always thought India was jungle, or at least giant cities and jungle. I never really pictured so much of it as dry desert sort of areas with large regions of stone and scrub brush, heat and dust. And here, even with images of Asian elephants, something I will always associate with the jungle, I am still reminded that the desert is the real power. We were less than 300 meters from the river, but the dust, the heat, and the sun were overpowering. While we kept diving for the shade of nearby temples and boulders, the lizards were thriving.
