A couple of my friends and I decided to fly down to Puerto Rico for a long weekend. We stayed at La Concha Renaissance Resort & Casino in Condado, which is a 15-minute drive from the airport. Condado is home to other oceanfront hotels (i.e. The Vanderbilt, Marriott) and its main street (Ashford Avenue) is lined with restaurants and shops for tourists. Here are some of the highlights from our 5-day stay in Puerto Rico, in the hopes that it'll inspire you/help you plan your trip to this wonderful island!I'd suggest taking/using Uber/Lyft as opposed to cabs... the cabs tended to be more expensive than Uber.Places to visit/things to do:Bacardi Distillery Tour: Truly one of my favorite things I did during my stay. For $15, you get a complimentary cocktail and a souvenir glass and a tour of Bacardi's Puerto Rico distillery, which produces 85% of Bacardi's rum. It was neat to learn about their storied past, and the many qualities that make Bacardi unique.La Placita: it's located in the heart of San Juan, and is the place to go for good night life. The area is blocked off from traffic so people dance, drink, mingle in the streets. Amazing music (some bars have live music), great drinks, and fun people. I'd definitely recommend taking an Uber or taxi though, as finding a parking WILL definitely be a challenge.El Yunque National Park & Loquillo Beach: it's the only rain forest in the US Park System. There are many different trails throughout the park, and I'd recommend taking the trail that leads to a beautiful, hidden water fall. The trail that we hiked was only 0.8 miles, and took us 20 minutes from the start of the trail to the water fall. After visiting the park, take the short drive to Loquillo Beach, a quiet and serene beach that is lined with local food vendors. DELICIOUS Puerto Rican food!Try the local restaurants and bars/visit Old San Juan: If you stay in the predominantly tourist areas, take an Uber/taxi to Old San Juan to explore the beautiful architecture of the city and try some of the local restaurants and bars. The waitresses/bartenders are extremely friendly and can give you tips on places to visit/eat.Enjoy the beaches: Obviously this should be a given! Tons of beautiful beaches all across Puerto Rico.
