The Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve is brimming with flora and fauna. Even simply walking through the jungle from Muyil to the Reserve, you hear constant birds in the air. It's about a 20 minute trek through the jungle on a well-kept path from the ruins to shore of the lagoon. Once there, you can hire one of the small boats to bring you out onto the water, and float through the ancient canals carved by the Mayans. These canals were carved so that Muyil was able to reach the ocean for trade, and are now a natural lazy river ride. The boat ride and canal float is a must, great for kids too!
