While I was visiting Pedernales Falls State Park West of Austin, Texas, a photographer told me about a nice waterfall about one quarter of a mile upstairs from the main falls. This surprise waterfall was a great place to visit.
I had to hike a primitive trail to get there. At a couple places, the trail all but disappeared, making it a bit tough to follow at times.
Eventually, I saw the falls and I was able to walk on some limestone ledges to get to it. For a while, I had the place all to myself. Just as I was getting ready to leave, a group of visitors showed up. Apparently these upper falls are not really a secret anymore.
