The Dominican Republic is well known for its mass tourism and its all-inclusive resorts along Punta Cana, even in Europe (the reason why several non-stop charter flights per week leave the continent). But it is actually possible to escape the crowds and explore, the island is large enough. One of the areas that still offers pretty unspoiled beaches is Las Terrenas. They are mostly lined with tall palm trees and stretch for miles and miles, ideal for beach walking. As it is the Dominican Republic, it might be wise to just bring essentials and leave valuables at your accommodation before you head to the nearly empty beaches.
