Train Layover in Milan

Milan, Lombardy, Italy
18 Kudos
On our way from Venice to Como by train, we had to switch trains in Milan. We decided that since we had to switch trains anyway, we may as well take a few hours to walk around Milan. Our train from Venice arrived in Milan at 11:30am, so we pushed back our train to Como until 4:10 so that we would have a few hours to explore. There is a baggage storage on the lower level of the train station, and you can catch a metro train directly to the Milan Cathedral from right by the train station too. It was very easy to deposit our luggage and navigate the metro. The Cathedral itself is very impressive and magnificent. We did not go inside, but we enjoyed taking a look at it from the outside.
After gawking at the cathedral, we wandered into the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele right by the cathedral. There are several high end stores in the Galleria. My husband found a tie at one of the stores that he loved and bought.
One of the other draws of the Galleria that I had seen on Rick Steves show, was the bull mosaic on the floor. It’s an odd tradition/superstition, but is thought to be good luck if you put your heel on the testicles of the bull, and spin 3 times.
After the Galleria, we headed on to the Starbucks Reserve Roastery (Which will be its own story) before heading back to the train station.
We were very glad that we took the time to spend a few hours in Milan, and it is definitely doable if you have a similar opportunity!

The Milan cathedral is a must see in Milan, and is the first thing we set out to see with our short time. Take the metro to the Duomo station

A shopping gallery right next to the cathedral with high end stores. Also the home of the famous bull mosaic. It keeps tagging the wrong place even though it says the proper name when I select it. Will try to fix later
