During our visit to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, we happened to catch the big cats fast asleep. Little did they seem to know or care about all of the attention they were getting from the steady crowd of zoo patrons parading by the confines of their enclosure. The male was sawing some logs with his mighty head held a few inches above the ground, while the lioness perched her chin on a nearby log. Typically, in the wild, male lions enjoy eighteen to twenty hours a day of shuteye. I’m not sure how many hours these cats snooze at the zoo.
