A bizarre but necessary stop on the Singapore itinerary is a walk through Haw Par Villa. Mistakenly called Tiger Temple, this is a somewhat spiritual place designed, created, and produced by the founders of Tiger Balm. The original location is in Hong Kong but is now closed, this location in Singapore is going strong in all its strangeness. Giant, although incredibly sad looking, tigers welcome you to the gardens and although there is no definite path, the many walkways and even "dungeons" take you through spiritual journeys and the myths of the people. The underlying theme is Chinese folklore and Confucianism but its anyone's guess where some of the origins are.
