After we visited friends in Cape Coral for the weekend, we headed to Fort Myers to check out their first annual Octoberfest. The city decided to offer an alternative to the popular fest in Cape Coral. It is held in the historic part of Fort Myers (right by the river). It was smaller than expected but still fun to walk through. Nearly all of the 15 or so food stands offered some kind of German food (although it was very far away from the real stuff). Of course, no Octoberfest is complete without a beer tent. This one had a capacity of maybe 300 people and was about half full when we arrived. Instead of traditional German music, they hosted a Tom Petty tribute band which in fact was very entertaining and very popular with the mostly local guests. We combined the Octoberfest with a visit to the historic part of Fort Myers.
