Last week we had a road trip through the heart of Missouri and stopped through Saint Joseph for a look at some of the old west history that the town is famous for. We drove up Museum Hill and immediately noticed a completely out of place castle sitting on top of the hill. We found out that this is the Wyeth-Tootle Mansion and was deliberately built to resemble a Gothic style castle back in the mid-1800s. The Wyeths made their wealth in hardware and saddle manufacturing and later sold the house to Kate Tootle. The interior is now a museum and is filled with some of the original furnishings of the home which are Victorian era, and also authentic items from the 1800s to include furnishings and taxidermy pieces. This mansion is most definitely out of place here on the hill.
