Absolutely beautiful! This place is a must for all natures' lovers and anyone who wants to have a picnic or a day out and about in DC. Good for kids, groups, picnics, long walks, short walks. There are a lot of flowers and trees here. It's great to feel like you are right in the heart of nature while still in the city.
Hard to find but was small drive from The National Mall. It's off the beaten path, so a lot of tourists never make the trek out. We missed right exit and headed to Washington Post office once. We started with the visitor center. They have maps there and people to answer questions. There are also clean bathrooms inside. This place is HUGE. Definitely bring a car or at least a bike because if you try walking the Arboretum you'll be here all day and still not make it through.
There's a whole bunch of different gardens/areas to check out, we decided to start with Bonsai section first. Then we visited the old Capitol columns and the herb garden, but there are even more places I haven't seen yet, so I can't say for sure those are the best.
If it's a nice day out and you want to do some exploring without being locked indoors, definitely head out to the National Arboretum, you won't be disappointed.
