Unbeknownst to many, the famous tree of Hippocrates can be found on the small island of Kos. You can take a 40 minute plane ride to get there, or a ten hour boat from the port of Piraeus in Athens. You can easily walk from the port to the Old Town. The city boasts many historical museums and landmarks, one of which being the Tree of Hippocrates. This tree is known for being the location of where Hippocrates would preach to the crowds and his students in 5th century BC. You are not allowed to touch the tree or step on the grounds around it as it is protected by fences. The Greek government is turning this location into a landmark in memory of Hippocrates, and the tree will be treated ecologically to ensure it lives thousands more years.
