If you have a car and a day to kill, I would recommend hiking Mt. Ida which is the highest point in Crete. From here you will be rewarded with sweeping views of the island. It is not an easy climb per say because the paths are not clearly labeled but it will not take you that long to complete it. There are a few points that are a little dangerous due to the loose rocks. The occasional goat or ram will inevitably cross your path so you must be aware of that. All in all, I found the climb up quite enjoyable and we brought lunch to enjoy at the top.
