While in Malta our tour brought us to "The Silent City," Mdina. Mdina is a fortified, walled city in the northern region of the island. The city was originally founded sometime around the 8th century BC, It has been occupied by several different invading forces over the centuries. Mdina is on the list to become an addition to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites and is one of the top tourist attractions in Malta with three quarters of a million visitors each year. Once you arrive you will be walking because there are no vehicles allowed within the city except for an occasional service or emergency vehicle. You can however ride in a horse drawn buggy. Because of the lack of traffic Mdina over the years has earned the nickname of, "The Silent City."
