Rail trails are the perfect way to both stay in shape and see the area you are visiting at a slower, and therefore more meaningful, pace than you would in a car. Michigan, has more than its fair share of rail trails. The Polly Ann Trail is one worthy of a few words. Winding its way from Orion to Leonard, the trail is a mix of asphalt and crushed stone. I wouldn't bring a road bike on the crushed stone part, but a hybrid, which is what I used, is fine. There are plenty of spots to stop for a break, or for lunch, and plenty of sights to see along the way.

The other terminus of the trail. Plenty of shopping and food.
