The November Third Memorial.

Addu City, South Province, Maldives
14 Kudos
Maldives is the perfect island getaway to many people seeking a piece of paradise. However I would recommend saving a day or two exploring its capital and the history of the island. My friend and I did a walking tour which included a visit to the island's November third memorial. There our guide told us the story about 8 military servicemen defended their headquarters from terrorists during an attack back in 1988. Apparently the hole that is now decorated with a shield as a memorial was the same hole terrorists used to try to enter the headquarters during the attacks. The memorial was built sometime around 2012 I believe and it is one of the stops during the city tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly throughout the entire time. He even had some great recommendations for local cuisine!
