We signed up for a tour of Ancient Greece, but planned a week in the Greek Islands on our own the week preceding our tour. We stayed 4 nights in the village of Oia, on the island of Santorini. Then, we took the boat to Mikonos and toured the archaeological island of Delos. We arrived at dark and took our bus to the apartment we'd rented in Oia. The woman took us to 4 apartments and let us choose which one we wanted. We took the one right on the pedestrian shopping street behind a courtyard. It was a traditional Captains House. We could walk out the door and choose from a number of great restaurants and shopping places. The morning after we arrived, the host put a fresh loaf of homemade bread on our door and left us olives, milk, and OJ. We opened the doors to the balcony and had a full view of the caldera. It was the most amazing view I've ever had. We just sat there all day and watched the boats, the Japanese girls having their wedding pictures taken, and the people walking to the sunset spot (like lemmings). One of the best places we've ever been. We walked the little pedestrian paths, watched the sunset while drinking wine at a beautiful courtyard overlooking the caldera. I'd go back there anytime!
