If you're in the humboldt bay area around winter time and you're looking for a nice place for a day trip in your car, I have a lot of recommendations. This is one of them, and it's very lovely. Of course this also applies to summer, but it's one of the places you can get some snow if you're lucky in the winter months without driving for hours. It's only about a 30 minute drive from Eureka, and you can absorb the lovely mountain atmosphere. You can either drive around and look for vistas over the redwood forest, or you could make the Jacoby Creek forest your destination where you can have some nice hikes. Very worth the day trip if you're around there!
