Ahhh, Malta. ‘A pair of islands composed of nothing but limestone at a two degree tilt’. Not entirely fair of me to broadly paint the geology of these amazingly interesting islands as such, but with only a few exceptions that is pretty much what you’ve got. But boy is that globigerina limestone beautiful! For so many tourists visiting distant locales from home, much of what makes a location ‘exotic’ is not the restaurants, or service, or even the hotel stay – it is the landscape, and the water – and the geology that makes these two things what they are for the casual or concerted visitor. Though a simple description of the geology, the reality is that there is no where else on Earth quite like Malta, and I look forward to returning!
