El Templo de los Jaguares or in English the Temple of Jaguars at Chichen Itza is believed to have been constructed as the first in a series of buildings and walls of the large ball court. The lower portion of the temple was built about the same time as El Castillo and the upper portion was built sometime between 800 and 1050. A very steep staircase located at the east end of the ball court reaches the top of the temple and provided a great view of the ball games. On the plaza side of the temple you will see the Jaguar Throne which is a stone carved seat in the shape of a jaguar.
