The wind blows all those fine stones and minerals from the Drakensberg to the dunes in Swakopmund .Researchers have predicted that the beautiful lodges we have slept in are about 30/40 years buried by the dunes. The dunes were forced back by the adjacent river. Due to climate change ( global warming) the river now contains much less water. They are also building dams in Swakopmund (water is scarce), so the water that falls is stopped and does not flow through the river towards the sea. This ensures that the river contains so little water - even in the rainy season - that the dunes can continue to grow. Bizarre idea right? Half the city swallowed by the dunes.
