I bet a lot of this area's economy is based on the tourism that happens during harvest season, and anything that keeps that uptick up is a boon to what can be a hard place to make a living. That said, someone struck gold when they started up this sunflower maze, which kind of replicates the corn mazes that people head to every fall. Allegedly there are 2 million sunflowers, and the place is also pet friendly, as I saw some people walking with their dogs there. The high season is August to September, but as is everything whether related and totally dependent on Nature, check the website to make sure it is up and running when you want to visit. The last time I went it cost $10 per adult and I am not sure how much a child fare was.
