This time of year, one of the best and least expensive activities you can do with your children or grandchildren is to take them strawberry picking. In the Carolinas, strawberries come ripe around April or early May depending on if you have a mild winter, like we did this year. Our favorite local farm is Holden Brothers. They are family owned since the 1700s – no kidding – and they have great produce. When you go, be sure you lather everyone up with sunscreen, and big floppy hats are a must. Also be prepared for the kids to eat as many berries as they pick.
