Walking down Duval Street, in the heart of Key West, you come up to the classic style facade of an old movie theater. I love these old art deco movie palaces of the 20's and 30's and always think about the heyday of Hollywood and movie premieres with glamorous stars getting out of black limousines, you get the drift. So my pace quickened up to see what old red velvet delights might be hiding inside, only to discover that the facade was nothing but a facade! It's a Walgreen's Pharmacy of all things. Leave it to corporate America to cause a head fake like that. But at least they left the facade, and reportedly spent quite a bit of money to do so. But the inside bears no hint at it's former glory, if there ever was one. The theater opened in the early 20's, but fell on hard times and ended up as a Ripley's Believe It or Not in 1993, before finally being sold to the big red W chain. Oh the travesty.
