In the old days Cannigione was a small and simple fishing village near the famous Costa Smeralda, the picturesque coast in the northern part of Sardinia. This obviously changed when Costa Smeralda was developed for the rich and famous by a consortium around Prince Aga Khan in the 60s. Today, Cannigione's harbor (see picture) is still home to the occasional fishing boat but mostly to yachts from vacationers who come from all over the world. It is just one of many harbors, the more important is Porto Cervo about 9 miles to the south. The clear waters surrounding Cannigione are a popular diving and snorkeling spot, day tours can be arranged. Be aware though that the water is rather cold if you don't come in high season.
