St Thomas Windmill

Charlotte Amalie, St Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands
20 Kudos
Windmills are significant in history of the Virgin Islands during the 17th and 18th centuries. On St. Thomas, windmills were used to squeeze the juice out of sugar cane stalks. Most of the remaining windmills in the Islands are in ruins. The windmill in this photo was reproduced for the Crown Bay Center, which is next to the cruise ship port. While at the Center, you can shop, get some snacks, and also find the carribean ubiquitous Diamonds International. Other notable sights on St. Thomas include Magen's Bay and Emerald Beach for the beach scene. Magen's a little further away than Emerald Beach.
