We live in Central Florida and travel up to St. Augustine often. We love it. We skip the Fort tours, museums, and other "tourist" things in favor of strolling around, people watching, and enjoying the great food and drink. The occasional Ghost Tour is good time too. Esp the Haunted Pub Crawl. There are lots of kids and families, so I'm sure there's plenty to do if that's how you roll. We travel as a couple and our dog joins us often.Highlights for like minded travelers:Flavors - it's aandwhich/wraps type eatery. Awesome sauce (literally - get something with their sauce on it)The Ice Plant - Newish craft cocktail bar in an old iceplant. The decor is good, the food is great, and the drinks are better. Keeping with the theme they have neat ice too.Hyppo Popsicles - interesting flavors like goat cheese and other hip things. Kicking it up another hipster notch they have some made with local craft beer and spirits (must be 21 for those items).MOJO Bar B Q. Great food and drinks. Sit at the bar. Stagger back to your room for a food coma. There are various Ghost Tours if you're into that sort of thing. We're skeptics but enjoy the campy fun. The pub crawl is a good time, as is the tour where you go into the old hospital.
Once you're downtown everything is walking distance, so park and stroll. Stay in a local BnB in the area and never look at your car again. That said, the beaches are nice, and we had a great time taking surfing lessons. If you head to the beach do brunch at Cafe 11.
