Just a few miles northwest of Colorado Springs, Colorado lies one of the most unique and beautiful geological formations in the American west, Garden of the Gods. The central feature of the park are the red and orange sandstone spires which tower almost vertically from the ground below. During my visit, I arrived late in the afternoon with just a few hours to explore before the sun set behind the Rocky Mountains. I grabbed by camera bag and began hiking a few of the 15 miles of trails within the park. Admission to the park was free and parking was easy. The park seemed very popular with tourists and locals alike.
