Spanish Moss is one of the classic plants of the American South and the Gulf Coast Region. It seems like everytime you see a movie set in the Deep South, the live oaks and the Spanish Moss make their cameo appearances.
I found this nice patch of Spanish Moss at the Sabal Palm Sanctuary in Brownsville, Texas. This sanctuary preserves an environment that is actually more associated with the nearby Tamaulipas State in Mexico than with Texas.
The Sabal Palm Sanctuary is an awesome destination (as is the Rio Grande Valley in general). Just be aware that you will need to drive through a gate in the Border Fence (don't let this surprise you). Also, don't forget bug repellant. The mosquitoes were everywhere!
