While in Mexico, we did quite a few ruins! Tulum, Muyil, Chichen Itza, and Coba - Muyil was definitely the most intimate. The Muyil site is located about 30 minutes south of Tulum on highway 307. Easy drive to have some Indiana Jones-style exploring! There were probably only 10 other people throughout the entire site. The highlight of Muyil though, is the trek through the jungle to the canals and lagoon (that will be my next story I post!)
Anyway, the ruins themselves were awesome. Rather than the built up or touristy feel you get at Chichen Itza and Tulum, these were much more "untouched." Walking through Muyil gave you a sense of exploration that isn't found battling the crowds at Chichen Itza.
San Antonio Highway
The drive to Muyil from Tulum was easy! Just cruised down the highway for a bit.
Culture and experiences
Great exploring to be had at the Muyil site, definitely worth going if you want to get off the beaten tourist path of the Riviera Maya.
