Once of the easiest towns in the French Alps to travel to for skiing is Bourg St. Maurice. There is great train service from Paris (6 hours) or other towns in France that get you to the charming town of Bourg St. Maurice. From there you can take a funicular to the base of Les Arcs ski area which opens up to hundreds of acres of skiable terrain across two resorts (Les Arcs/La Plagne). The town is a great base for staying off mountain as it is much more affordable and local, especially if you can find a private apartment rental...oh and the skiing on the mountain is out of this world, with Les Arcs featuring one of the longest runs in the World in the "Aiguille Rouge".
Your connection to Paris and beyond. If you want to save on a night's lodging try to catch the overnight sleeper train to Paris. Very comfortable and at 10 hours long, enough time to rest after skiing or partying.
Bars and nightlife
This is the apres-ski spot to be at Les Arcs. DJ's start at about 3pm. Ski down the hill at sunset after finishing off some local wine
Great local run restaurant with affordable homeade pizza, near the funicular and the east end of main street. Be sure to order the big beer to wash down the pizza and ask the owner for his recommendation on off piste routes
