San Juan, Puerto Rico - La Concha Resort

This was a fun trip with two friends except I did not think about it being spring break time for colleges, etc. It was a little crazy.Stayed at the La Concha Resort which is a Marriott property. Used points and cash to stay.70,000 points plus $200 dollars. Third night was 35,000 points plus $50. Third night cheaper bc a junior suite opened up and I reserved it. Once I got there they let my reservation be a one bedroom suite for all three nights instead of switching last night.Came in at 12am so we walked into the lobby during peak “fist pumping” and “woop girls” hours. The dance music was blaring and I could not even hear the check in guy. He took my id just to be able to get my name. Neon lights were flashing and it was almost hysterical to walk into this atmosphere since we were so exhausted and just wanted to catch up with each other and go to bed! We did stay at the bar for some time the next night (try the cafe tequila shot!) and it was a fun atmosphere earlier in the night. We left around 11pm though.Bathroom door is very thin and has slats so there will be a privacy issue.Sofa bed was completely broken and there were no sheets in the room even though I specifically asked the front desk if there was a sofa bed like there was supposed to be and they told me yes and sheets were available in the room. For the sofa bed, we had to call for an “engineer” to come examine it. It all became a bit of a mess that I like to avoid when staying at hotels. I don't expect much but was disappointed by what happened.**See below trip report for full disappointing story of what went down and what results we got.Bathroom is small (Only one person could fit in there at a time) with shower only. I was a little disappointed by the room itself. The description on the website made it seem like it had more room and more amenities in it.The one bedroom suite was a medium sized room with king bed and a chaise lounger. The living area had a sofa bed and several chairs as well as a little dinette table. The room was equipped with a microwave and refrigerator, coffee maker but nothing else.Ocean view one bedroom suite. Room 1101.Balcony in front of room that overlooks the street which is a pretty popular hang out during this time of night. The bedroom has a wall of windows that open to show the ocean and the back of the hotel, which includes the grounds and pool.Within walking distance is a location that does paddle boarding. Paddleboarding in lagoon so it is no waves unlike the hotel beach area which is very big waves. Lots of different activities out there to learn to do. Can rent boards there in front of hotel by guy who walks around with them.Taxi from airport was approximately $20. This fee can change depending on how many people and pieces of luggage you have. It was a quick 10-15 minutes drive from the airport.Restaurant times in the hotel are strict and weird!Kimakai sushi not until 12pmVoga italian serves breakfast until 11am and does not serve lunch.Solera (Tapas al Fresco) outside poolside restaurant. Lunch.Comped breakfast for Gold and Platinum mon-friday at Ocean Lounge located on first floor towards The Suites Tower but no comped breakfast on sat and sun. Not open and not available!Cabanas and beach side beds outside are first come first serve.Towels located on The Suites tower beach side of hotel where adult pool is located.Towels also located at regular pool where restaurants and jacuzzis are located.Bathroom near beach where gym and bar is located (as well as showers) there were no paper towels or bathroom tissue. Had to ask bartender to get some extra roll but that is all they got.Lots of excursions from hotel. Took pictures to show but you can email hotel and they will email the pdf file with full list of excursions. Certain ones are not on there and I asked about paddle boarding nearby.Peruriccan restaurantLocated 5-10 min walk from hotel.Beautiful view of ocean. Bar has fun lounge area.Prices are in the middle range. $$-$$$Passionfruit mojito - very sweet!Antucuchos - steak - cooked perfectly! Delicious and smoky.Took taxi to Old San Juan area and it was great. So many fun shops and restaurants to visit. Great atmosphere and can go into the castles to sight see. It was only a forty-five minute walk from hotel but you are walking the whole time you get there so I suggest taking a taxi. Will cost you around $15 to $20.**Did not fix the sofa bed and we waited until 4am to go to sleep because we kept waiting on people to actually show up once we called for help. Couldn't do anything so they brought in a blow up mattress. The next morning went to talk to manager. He promised to replace the sofa bed.We left then came back four hours later and no sofa bed. Had to go back down a second time to talk to manager (Miguel). He said he would look into it. $100 comp on room and drink vouchersGot a phone call while put on beach and they said they just put a roll out bed in our room instead of new couch. No compensation, no room upgrade.Tweeted DM to @Marriott. They Called manager and manager called room to tell us they were comping our room charges and giving me 20,000 points as compensation.
