Salem, Massachusetts is often best known for the Salem Witch Trials of 1692, but Salem also has a rich past as one of the nations oldest and most prosperous seaports. Today, you can explore that history at the Salem Maritime National Historic Site. The park is located along the eastern waterfront between Hodges Street and Palfrey Court. There are a number of historic buildings and sites to visit throughout the park and everything is walkable. I would suggest starting your tour at the Orientation Center. Also, don't miss a visit to the historic ship the Friendship of Salem to experience what life was like as an 18th century sailor.
