During our cycling tour of Turkey we wanted to include a cruise along the Aegean coastline in a traditional Turkish "gulet" sailing vessel. The most popular place to start the journey is in the coastal port of Marmaris, where an overwhelming set of choices of vessels awaits the unsuspecting traveler.
We spent a couple of days wandering up and down the quay, inspecting boats and interviewing crews until we decided to go with East Meets West, a beautiful boat run by Meridian Travels. They agreed to carry our bikes on-deck so that we could disembark in Fethiye and continue our cycling trip.
We had a fantastic trip along the coastline with only a few other passengers, and ended up extending the original 5-day itinerary to a full week. Great swimming, sightseeing and hiking along the coastline, anchoring in picturesque bays at night and lazing on the boat during the day - all accompanied by incredible Turkish food prepared by the staff, including fish BBQs on the beach in the evenings. Definitely one of the highlights of our 4 months in Turkey!
