Roadside heliconias. I mentioned in a prior story last month about the abundance of heliconia in the cook islands. I was particularly impressed and that it appeared to grow as almost free growing weed along the roadside’s. Well pictured is one such instance. We encountered this group of beautiful heliconia as we were beginning the very nascent stages of the cross island hike. At this point we were basically just walking along an unpaved road to get to the trail head proper. Still, a walk along this road is unlike a walk on most in the other. You are treated too generous views of flowers verdant mountain cliffs and even livestock on the properties on either side of the road. It’s a feast for the senses even before the hike begins in earnest.
