Road Trip To Guavate, Puerto Rico

My friends and I took advantage of our last full day in Puerto Rico by taking a road trip to the country's lechoneras! A drive up to the mountain town of Guavate wasn't exactly fun, but once we got there it was all worth it.

We got there early enough to see the lechoneras set up and get ready for what is typically a busy weekend for them! We initially spotted Lechonera Los Pinos and got in line to order foods. The owners and the staff were so patient with us since we were unfamiliar with most of the dishes they offer.

The lechon by the pound was really good, and my Filipino taste buds were excited to try it! Besides the lechon we also tried other traditional stews and fried goods!

After dining we checked out the souvenir shops and did a little bit of shopping. Unfortunately we missed the live bands since we had to drive back to San Juan.

Story Details

Aeropuerto Internacional Luis Muñoz Marín
The gateway to the All Star Island of Puerto Rico!

The Condado Plaza Hilton
Nice stay at this hotel overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

Points of interest

We stayed at the Condado district of Puerto Rico which was pretty commercialized. Lots of shopping and dining around the district.
San Juan
Capital of Puerto Rico! San Juan's most famous attraction are its forts and Old San Juan!
The place to get lechon in Puerto Rico! This mountain town is a hot spot specially on the weekends!

Paseo de la Princesa
We had really high expectations with this place since they are known for their mofongo, but the mofongo was mediocre. Great service though.
Lechonera Los Pinos
Good lechon and other authentic Puerto Rican dishes!!!
