What's better than taking a boat up a river in southern Belize? Not a lot, that's what. We were staying in Placencia and heard a recommendation for a cruise up the Monkey River, one of Belize's main rivers. We couldn't pass up that opportunity, so we booked a trip during the week when the crowds were expected to be less. The Monkey River is a wild and lush waterway that ends at the Caribbean Ocean. The boat ride was about two hours long, and we were able to spot many different animals, including crocodiles and a manatee near the mouth of the river.
