The Old Manse, located along the Concord River, has had quite the history. Kind of amazing to think of all of the revolutionary changes that have occurred in the area since the home was constructed in 1769. The manse itself is located right beside the North Bridge, the site of the "shot heard 'round the world" that started the American Revolution on April 19, 1775. It was also a home in which the transcendentalist revolution flourished (with famous residents including Emerson and Hawthorne). Fascinating history and a wonderful place to visit. We walked around the property, beside the gardens, across the North Bridge, and up to the North Bridge Visitor Center. Just one of the incredible places that really had an important role in this country’s past.
