Rarotonga Cross Island Hike

Avarua District, Cook Islands

I really love to hike but don't always get opportunities to do truly great hikes. When visiting Rarotonga recently, my partner and I did the cross island hike, which was an amazing way to see the island. The trail was a bit muddy, so we slid a lot, but it was incredible to see so much of the island. For one part of our hike, we even had two unexpected hiking partners -- roosters! Who knew that roosters are good hikers? I guess it's the low center of gravity? They ran straight up the most daunting parts of the trail, so I was impressed at least. Anyway, if you are in reasonable shape and like to hike, I definitely recommend this beautiful trail if you are ever visit Rarotonga.

Exceptional views, although a bit daunting if you don't usually hike rugged trails!

It would be disappointing if we set out to see it by itself, but it was a nice sight at the end of a rewarding hike!

Before starting out on the trail, we ate a really hearty breakfast at Bite Time! Fun place!
