Speaking of tourists favorite landmarks, the center of what is happening in Frankfurt is without a doubt Römerberg (literal meaning of Roman mountain - not sure why they named "mountain") the market square in the historic old downtown. Frankfurt am Main is amazingly grand scale city and it is extremely modern. Hence the market square is perhaps one of only pieces in the city where medieval charms still exist. What is surprising in this historic medieval market square is rather simple and not a lot of medieval buildings compared to countless old towns in Germany. This cobbled pedestrian only square looks beautiful, but far less impressive than other historic towns in European cities.
