Potawataomie Baptist Manual Labor Training School

Topeka, KS, USA
15 Kudos
This project, at Topeka, Kansas, was intended to be a self-supporting boarding school to teach trades to Potawatomie youth, and after its completion in 1850 housed approximately 90 Indian children. However, it was closed 11 years later due to funding failures and the outbreak of the Civil War. An interesting feature is the Mission Kitchen Garden, built in the style of the German four-square gardens popular during the time the Mission was in operation.
