One of the most spectacular set of the many coastal towns of southeastern Italy is the town of Polignano a Mare. A beautiful vista appears around every corner looking over the beautiful sea. This was considered one of the most important towns of the ancient Romans, and ruins can be found nearby along with the remains ancient rock quarries used for building. Tourism and fishing are the main sources of income now. The town is not so well known though that the streets are overrun with tourists like other more famous coastal towns, so it's a great alternative for anyone looking to get off the beaten path .
